Sustainability
Sustainability from Fields to Forks
1. Our Cooperative Approach
We’re not just a butchery, we’re ten friends with a shared vision: to bring premium Hurunui and Canterbury sourced meat to your plate. Though we’re no longer direct farmers, our roots remain deeply connected to Hurunui Farms. We partner closely with them to ensure every cut reflects the region’s quality and integrity. Canterbury free-range chicken and pork is available too.
2. Local & Ethical Sourcing
We proudly support the farming community of Hurunui by sourcing our Prime Angus and Hereford beef, plus lamb/hoggets from local Hurunui farms, supporting farming practices and local processes from pasture to packaging.
3. Minimal Environmental Footprint
By collaborating with farms nearby and a local processing facilities, we significantly reduce transportation mileage. Our commitment? To keep it as local, green, and sustainable as possible, supporting both land and community health.
4. Invested in Natural Stewardship
Though we’ve stepped back from direct farming, the Hurunui farming community continues its environmental leadership, implementing farm environment plans, biodiversity projects, and erosion mitigation through partnerships like the Hurunui District Landcare Group New Zealand Farm Environment Trusthurunuilandcaregroup.co.nz. Our sourcing strategy aligns with these regional sustainability efforts.
5. Traceability You Can Trust
Every purchase you make from us comes with a story from pasture, to processor, to friends in the butchery, straight to your door. That’s transparency and accountability we take pride in.
6. Kind to Community & Consumers
Our cooperative of friends brings passion, craft, and connection to every order. We’re committed to listening, improving, and ensuring your dining experience aligns with our values.
